Pill-sized camera gets to grips with your gut

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

A new camera-in-pill has been designed — one that crawls around inside your gut, anchoring itself by biting onto the walls of your intestine.

It is radio-controlled and so can be stopped whenever something of interest is spotted, unlike existing camera capsules which simply drift through the gut along with everything else.

Care must be taken to ensure that the bowel isn’t perforated during operation, but it shouldn’t cause much discomfort, apparently.

Original article (pdf file, complete with all the technical bits) can be found here.

This tiny camera is not just a nifty bit of technology — it also achieves what all gadgets aspire to: it’s not merely compact – it’s a choking hazard 🙂
