Tarantula feet spin sticky silk
Zebra tarantula from Costa Rica
(S. Niederegger and S. Gorb, Max Planck Society/ Nature)
“Tarantulas have microscopic nozzle-like structures on their feet that secrete a viscous silk-like filament.”
The discovery is the first evidence of a spider species that uses silk for locomotion.
How it wasn’t noticed before is something of a puzzle to me.
