“At 10am on Sunday 20th June 2010, all across the country, greyhounds and their owners will join each other on the first Great British Greyhound Walk. It’s a social event for people to get together and share the joys of greyhound ownership and an opportunity to promote greyhounds as pets to the rest of the country.”

If there’s one locally I dare say we’ll go along with our two. It’s always great to walk with other owners – and most greyhounds seem to love meeting other greyhounds; ours certainly do.

(The website needs to check spelling, though!)

Help your dog cope with fireworks

It’s firework season here – and all that loud noise can be too much for many dogs. A friend suggested this site which provides a free e-book of advice and free mp3 file of firework noises to download and allow you to try to desensitise your dog.

I think I’ll give it a go with Dippy, who really doesn’t like loud bangs.

Heart-warming. Wonderful to see these beautiful greyhounds being promoted as pets by Crowded House.

I homed my first retired racer, Rebel, a year ago and added Dippy this summer – they’re both fantastic to have around. Here’s a photo of the pair of them doing their favourite thing:

We have a new family member – he’s called Rebel and he’s a four year old retired greyhound. It’s early days yet, but so far he and Phoebe, our Leonberger, seem to be getting on fine 🙂

He's here!

Many thanks to Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary for letting him come to live with us.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the kind birthday wishes – not stumbling much today — having fun with family and Phoebe!

And peering through the gateway…

Thanks for this xyzzyplugh – it’s great!

dogs, weather

Finished work early this afternoon and was going to do some gardening but ended up playing ‘football’ with Phoebe instead (I’m easily sidetracked). This entails me doing very little except standing in one spot and kicking the ball occasionally — she chases after it until she runs herself ragged and then lies down and chews it.

The life expectancy of a football in her possession is poor.

Recently the BBC changed its weather map. Watching the forecast now induces motion sickness and I find it hard to get any useful information from the map with its sludgy colours and crappy ‘3D’ symbols. Hard to spot any isobars either. It also has a big southern bias, with Scotland almost lost in the perspective. It’s bollocks!!!

For the full experience (for non-BBC viewers) there’s a link to a nausea-induing video clip on this page: new weather map, in which presenters attempt to sell it to us. Apparently many complaints have been received and so from tomorrow the tilt is going to be changed – but not the colour or the other crap changes.

Quick quiz: What Gender Is Your Brain?

Your Brain is 40.00% Female, 60.00% Male

ou have a total boy brain

Logical and detailed, you tend to look at the facts

And while your emotions do sway you sometimes…

You never like to get feelings too involved

….. not sure how the quiz came up with that! So why do I get minimal pleasure from cars, useless gadgets, farting, heavy metal music, action/fighting sequences in films, making my PC run faster, sci-fi, getting drunk and eating kebabs?

Oops!

Powder mix-up fools sniffer dogs

A team of Australian drug sniffer dogs has been sent back for retraining, after it was found they could only track talcum powder, not cocaine.

Melbourne police found that the white powder used to hone the dogs’ nostrils was not in fact an illegal substance.

“They’re very good at detecting talcum powder,” joked Assistant Commissioner Paul Evans. “If there’s any missing kids, we’ll find them fairly quickly.”
